چکیده
This paper concerns the absorption of energy from two-dimensional water waves propagating over fluid constant depth by a wave converter consisting small buoyant floating rafts constrained to move in heave motion and attached bed with springs dampers. Under shallow approximation motion, it is shown that spatially-varying spring damper settings allow all be absorbed frequencies. The basis design formulation novel type ‘Perfectly Matched Layer’ equation which can mapped onto model converter. theoretical predictions are tested computations based on full description linearised show near-perfect persists wide range

متن کاملHeave Plate Dynamics for a Point Absorbing Wave Energy Converter
Wave energy converters (WECs) often include a submerged heave reaction plate located at a depth where the surrounding water is minimally disturbed by the passing surface waves. Heave plates provide a relatively stationary and artificially massive body to which WECs transfer the reactionary forces generated as their power-takeoffs (PTOs) resist the motion induced by the incoming waves. To date l...
متن کاملModelling the WITT wave energy converter
This presentation describes work undertaken as part of INNOVATE UK funding led by Witt Energy Ltd to investigate the efficacy of a novel design of wave energy converter (WEC). A sealed spherical hull is floating on the surface of the water (Fig. 2(b)) and is moored to the sea bed under a four point catenary mooring system. A mechanical device known as the WITT (Fig. 1) is housed within the hull...
متن کاملExperimental Evaluation of IRWEC1, a Novel Offshore Wave Energy Converter
This paper describes the innovative offshore point-absorber wave energy converter (WEC), IRWEC1, under development by the Hydrodynamics, Acoustics and Marine propulsion Group at Babol Noshirvani University of Technology. Totally enclosed in an outer shell, with no external moving parts, IRWEC1 is completely sealed which make it a robust and trustable system. Important motion for this WEC is the...
متن کاملHydrodynamic modelling of a direct drive wave energy converter
In this article we present numerical studies of waves interacting with a cylindrical point absorber that is directly driving a seabed based linear generator. For waves useful for power conversion, the wave/point absorber interaction can be modelled, using potential theory assuming an inviscid irrotational incompressible fluid. The generator is modelled as a viscous damper. This paper pays speci...
